Easter Statues & Floats | Holy Week

Religious easter parade floats

The origin of this tradition arises to represent the Passion of Christ, thus making it easier for people to access the gospel message.

Although processional floats are always associated with Holy Week, they can also have a non-passional theme. In these cases, they are called Glory Floats.

You can find various processional floats in our Easter floats catalogue. Among the statues carried in Holy Week, figures of Christ stand out above all others, revered for generations.

The images and processional floats of Holy Week are symbols of this celebration with a marked religious character. It is important to remember that during Easter, we commemorate the martyrdom, death, and resurrection of Christ.

The figures, sculptures, carvings, and statues of Easter are recreations of the last moments of Jesus on Earth before ascending to the side of His Father. These reproductions transport us to a moment that has transcended the history of humanity.

Holy Week cannot be understood without the processions of religious figures and floats that transform the atmosphere of cities and towns, inviting reflection and prayer.

Handcrafted processional figurines for Easter

In our online store, there is a sale of all kinds of Holy Week processions for Catholic brotherhoods and Easter fraternities. Most figures are made artisanally in the Spanish workshops, but we also have wooden carvings.

The manufacturing process of Spanish figures follows the artisanal processes developed in the 19th century at the Olot school of religious imagery. Traditional methods have been preserved to continue manufacturing the figures like they were made a century ago. The materials and techniques used maintain the spirit with which they were originally employed, creating unique pieces that invite you to enjoy Easter Holy Week parades in all their splendour.

The detail of the faces of the figures is especially relevant. The faces of the statues have been made to enhance expressions, using glass eyes to increase the realism and emotion conveyed by the figures.

Spanish figurines for Easter parades

The city of Olot, located in the province of Girona, is known for its artisanal tradition in the creation of religious images for churches and Easter processions.

These workshops have kept alive the tradition, a tradition that dates back to the 19th century. Today, traditional methods of artisanal manufacturing are still used.

Religious imagery from Olot (Spanish statuary) is characterized by its artistic quality and religious devotion. The main material for modelling the figures is wood paste, a very light material that allows obtaining images of a wide range of sizes with a highly detailed finish.

The Olot religious imagery is recognized worldwide for its tradition, enormous beauty, and artistic value. Parishes, churches, collectors, and brotherhoods have acquired religious images from the artisan workshops of Olot.

Catholic figurines statues sizes

Holy Week processions are usually large figures. It is common for figures between 160 cm and 180 cm tall to parade through our localities.

Large figures allow for a much greater degree of detail than smaller statues. The sensation of realism is much greater in figures that exceed 150 cm in height.

Artisans can work much more easily to achieve much more realistic and evocative results.

Custom Easter processional figurines

The figures made in the Spanish workshops are manufactured using moulds, optimizing the manufacturing processes, reducing delivery times and the selling price of the figurines.

Using these moulds is especially relevant when intending to buy sculptural sets such as the Last Supper, composed of thirteen figures. Executing all the sculptures through modelling considerably reduces the deadlines compared to alternatives such as wood carving. The reduction in delivery time results in price reductions, making these figures more accessible to brotherhoods and parishes with modest budgets.

Although part of the figure is modelled, the manufacturing method of the Spanish workshops allows for personalizing the figures. Elements can be added or removed so that the figures change completely.

In addition, in the painting part, the process allows making the changes deemed appropriate, as the painting is done entirely by hand.

The figures and Holy Week processions made by carving are unique and customized. The artisan carves the wood in the way requested.

Long-term Easter statuary

The purchase of a Holy Week procession is a long-term investment. They represent a significant investment for a Catholic brotherhood or fraternity.

The figures for sale in our store have the guarantees of Christian art from Olot.

Spanish Catholic brotherhoods and Easter fraternities

Catholic brotherhoods and fraternities are another of the pillars where the devotion and sentiment of Easter rest.

Brotherhoods and fraternities are two types of associations that arose during the Middle Ages. Originally, these two types of religious associations differed both in the type of people who composed them and in their statutes.

Today, the differences between brotherhoods and fraternities have blurred. The differences that originally defined them are becoming less important. It is common to refer to an association by the name of either brotherhood or fraternity.

The Passion brotherhoods or Easter Catholic brotherhoods

There is a wide variety of Catholic brotherhoods and fraternities. Associations related to the celebration of Holy Week are known as Easter or Passion Brotherhoods, or Easter or Passion Brothers.

They are associations that promote public worship of the mysteries of the faith, parading with their Holy Week processions and carrying out many events.

Types of Easter or Passion brotherhood floats

Brotherhoods and fraternities of Holy Week are usually classified according to the mystery they venerate. Thus, we could talk about the Catholic brotherhoods of the Crucified Christ, the Borriquita or the Entry into Jerusalem, the prayer in the Garden, the Captive, the Column and Scourges, the Crowning with Thorns, the Holy Burial, the Sorrows, the Resurrected Christ or the Resurrection, etc.

Each of these types of brotherhoods usually parades on a day of Holy Week. For example, the Borriquita Brotherhood parade is on Palm Sunday, the Resurrected Christ brotherhoods parade on Resurrection Sunday, etc. These processions may vary slightly depending on the local customs of the population.

Easter floats miniatures for sale

Easter floats miniatures are detailed replicas of the processional floats, capturing the essence and beauty of the most emblematic processional statures. In general, they are highly detailed pieces made by highly skilled artisans. The process of reproducing Easter floats is a very trying one.

Our online store sells miniature Easter floats in smaller sizes. We make pieces of religious imagery in reduced sizes for all those buyers who wish to buy an image or a figure.

For example, the Holy Week procession of Jesus praying in the garden is for sale in two sizes. The larger sculptural composition is 180 cm. The more miniature piece is 60 cm.

Second-hand Easter floats

The sale of second-hand Holy Week floats is an ideal method to obtain a set of religious figures at a low price.

Second-hand religious images are not very common. They are usually only found when a Catholic brotherhood or fraternity replaces some of its titular figures, or a Catholic association disappears.

In our online store, we do not have any second-hand figures or antiques for sale. But you can contact us if you want to sell an image in good condition. We will advertise on our social networks with your sales proposal at no cost.

Several Catholic brotherhoods have managed to sell their Holy Week floats through sales ads that we have posted on the social networks of our online store.
