Description of the Recumbent Christ
The Recumbent Christ is one of the most popular religious images among the brotherhoods of our country, with a large number of devotees in its processions.
The religious figure of the Lying Christ represents Jesus on a shroud, in a lying position, once crucified and transferred to the Holy Sepulchre.
The head of Christ, slightly inclined to the right side, and part of the thorax rest on a pillow. The arms extend on the bed separated from the trunk.
The figure of the Lying Christ is inspired by the Spanish Baroque tradition in its vision and interpretation of death. It presents a treatment of the nude with a great opulence of the forms, in addition, to these the blood in the wounds joins; on the knees, on the chest, etc.
