Pietà, the Virgin Mary embraces her dead son
In the Pietà, the Virgin Mary is represented with her dead Jesus in her arms. Christ, after having suffered the Via Crucis and the Crucifixion, dies on the Cross with his mother at his feet. After the descent from the Cross , the Virgin Mary takes Jesus on her lap showing the deep pain of a mother who has lost her son.
