Information about Jesus sentenced to die on the Cross

Sculptural ensemble with four figures:

Pontius Pilate Figure

Roman procurator of the province of Judea appointed by the emperor Tiberius. He is represented sitting and washing his hands in a container "drinking water, he washed his hands before the people, saying: I am innocent of the blood of this just man, you will see." Pontius Pilate found no sign of guilt during his interrogation of Jesus Christ. But the priests of the Sanhedrin with their malicious accusations and the pressure they exerted on the crowd, finally convinced Pilate to sentence Jesus to die on the Cross. The priests of the Sanhedrin wanted to put Jesus to death immediately, but the Roman rule forced them to abide by the decisions of the provincial procurator.
