  • Saint Philomena is represented with a palm and an anchor.
  • The palm is the symbol of the martyrs.
  • The anchor is one of the symbols with which Santa Filomena is identified. There are two main sources that explain the identification of Saint Philomena with the anchor:
    • The first of them tells us that the anchor was the instrument of Saint Filomena's martyrdom.
    • The second source points out that she was sentenced to drown in the river. This sentence included that he would wear an anchor tied around his neck. When they threw Santa Filomena into the river with the anchor around her neck, angels came down from heaven to save her. After this, the judges of Santa Filomena, believing that her salvation was the work of witchcraft, and not a miracle of God, sentenced her to die by being shot by arrows.
