Virgin of Fatima

The Virgin of Fátima (also known as Our Lady of Fátima, Our Lady of the Rosary of Fátima, or Nossa Senhora de Fátima in Portuguese) is a Marian dedication of great tradition and devotion throughout the Iberian Peninsula. Both in Spain and Portugal there are numerous temples dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima.
Nossa Senhora de Fátima appeared to three shepherd children in Fátima. The children Lucía dos Santos, ten years old, and her cousins, Jacinta and Francisco Marto, six and nine years old respectively, saw the Virgin Mary in Fatima on May 13. Date that currently continues to celebrate the day of the Virgin of Fatima.
After the first apparition, Our Lady of Fatima told the three shepherds to return to the same place. They had to go back to the exact place where they had seen her on the thirteenth for six consecutive months. From May 13 to October 13, 1917.
On the following occasions that they visited the place of the apparition, the children were followed by thousands of people who went to the place to admire the Virgin.
During the period in which the apparitions occurred, the Virgin of Fatima offered the pastors and the devotees who accompanied them numerous prophecies and recommendations. He also offered them three very important messages known as The Three Secrets of Fatima.
Among the most important predictions, Nossa Senhora de Fátima announced the end of the First World War. He also announced the death of Francisco and Jacinta, who died a few years after the first apparition of the Virgin. Both were named Blessed of the Catholic Church.
Among the recommendations, the Virgin gave special importance to the prayer of the Rosary for the conversion of the sinners of the world. Our Lady of Fatima also requested the construction of a chapel on the site of the apparition. This small chapel, over time, will end up becoming the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Rosary, which can currently be visited in the town of Fátima.

Virgin of Fatima , the three secrets of Fatima

The messages that the Virgin of Fatima delivered to the children, known as The Three Secrets of Fatima, were:

The first secret of Fatima showed a vision of hell.

The second secret of Fatima explained how to reconvert the world to the Christian faith. Secret that many scholars have related to the progressive conversion that occurred in Russia as a result of the fall of the USSR in 1990.

The third secret of Fatima was not made public until June 26, 2000. On this date, Pope John Paul II revealed the third secret of Fatima during his visit to the Sanctuary of Fatima. The third secret of Fatima speaks of a Bishop dressed in white. The Bishop is attacked by soldiers who shoot him with a firearm. This third secret of Fatima is related to the attack that Pope John Paul II suffered at the hands of Ali Agca on May 13, 1981 (64th anniversary of the first apparition of Fatima).

Third Secret of Fatima, transcribed by Sister Lucia on January 3, 1944 and made public by the Secretary of State, Cardinal Angelo Sodano, on May 13, 2000.
"I write in obedience to You, my God, who ordained it through His Most Reverend Excellency the Lord Bishop of Leiria and your and mine Most Holy Mother.
"After the two parts that I have already exposed, we have seen on the left side of Our Lady, a little higher up, an Angel with a sword of fire in his left hand; sparkling, he emitted flames that seemed to set the world on fire; but they extinguished in contact with the splendor that Our Lady radiated with her right hand directed towards him; the Angel pointing to the earth with his right hand, said with a loud voice: Penance, Penance, Penance! And we saw in an immense light what God is : 'something similar to how people look in a mirror when they pass in front of it' to a Bishop dressed in White 'we had the feeling that it was the Holy Father' Also to other Bishops, priests, men and women religious climbing a mountain steep, on whose summit there was a great Cross of rough timbers as if they were cork oaks with the bark; the Holy Father, before reaching it, crossed a great city half in ruins and half trembling with unsteady steps, sorrowful of pain. prayer and sorrow, praying for the souls of the corpses he found along the way; reached the top of the mountain, prostrate on his knees at the foot of the great Cross, he was killed by a group of soldiers who fired several shots at him from firearms and arrows; and in the same way, Bishops, priests, men and women religious, and various lay people, men and women of various classes and positions, died one after another. Under the two arms of the Cross there were two Angels each with a glass jug in hand, in which they collected the blood of the Martyrs and sprinkled with it the souls that approached God.
