Matthew 1. 18-25 : The Birth of Jesus

"1:18 The birth of Jesus Christ was thus: When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit.
1:19 Joseph her husband, as he was just, and did not want to disgrace her, wanted to leave her secretly.
1:20 And thinking about this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said to him, Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to receive Mary your wife, because what is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
1:21 And she will give birth to a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.
1:22 All this happened to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet, when he said:
1:23 Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, which translated is: God with us.
1:24 And when Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and received his wife.
1:25 But he did not know her until she gave birth to her firstborn son; and named him Jesus.

Matthew 2. 1-12 : The visit of the wise men

2:1 When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem,
2:2 saying, Where is the king of the Jews, who is born? For we have seen his star in the east, and we have come to worship him.
2:3 When King Herod heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
2:4 And summoned all the chief priests, and the scribes of the people, he asked them where the Christ was to be born.
2:5 They said to him, In Bethlehem of Judea; for thus it is written by the prophet:
2:6 And you, Bethlehem, of the land of Judah, are not the least among the princes of Judah; For out of you will come a guide, who will shepherd my people Israel.
2:7 Then Herod secretly called the wise men and diligently inquired of them the time of the appearance of the star;
2:8 and sending them to Bethlehem, he said, Go there and inquire diligently about the child; and when you find him, let me know, so that I too can go and adore him.
2:9 They, having heard the king, went their way; And behold, the star that they had seen in the east went ahead of them, until when it arrived, it stopped over where the child was.
2:10 And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
2:11 And when they entered the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and falling down, they worshiped him; and opening their treasures, they offered him gifts: gold, frankincense and myrrh.
2:12 But being warned by revelation in a dream not to return to Herod, they returned to their own country by another way."
