Luke 2. 1-7 : The Birth of Jesus

"2:1 It came to pass in those days, that an edict was issued by Augustus Caesar, that the whole world should be registered.
2:2 This first census was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria.
2:3 And they all went to be registered, each one to his city.
2:4 And Joseph went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David;
2:5 to be registered with Mary his wife, betrothed to him, who was with child.
2:6 And it came to pass, while they were there, that the days of her delivery were completed.
2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Luke 2. 8-20 : The angels and the shepherds

2:8 There were shepherds in the same region, keeping watch and keeping a watch over their flock by night.
2:9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were greatly afraid.
2:10 But the angel said to them, Fear not; For behold, I bring you tidings of great joy, which will be for all the people:
2:11 that a Savior has been born to you this day in the city of David, who is CHRIST the Lord.
2:12 This shall be a sign to you: You will find a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
2:13 And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying:
2:14 Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, good will toward men!
2:15 It happened that when the angels went from them to heaven, the shepherds said to one another: Let us go, then, to Bethlehem, and see this thing that has happened, and that the Lord has shown us.
2:16 So they came with haste, and found Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
2:17 And when they saw it, they made known what had been told them about the child.
2:18 And all who heard were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.
2:19 But Mary kept all these things, pondering them in her heart.
2:20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, as it had been told them."
