Saint Maria Josefa of the Heart of Jesus Sancho de Guerra

María Josefa Sancho de Guerra was born in Spain, in the city of Vitoria on September 7, 1842. She was raised by deeply religious parents and from a very young age she has clear that great devotion is to serve Christ by becoming a nun.
At the age of almost 23, she entered the Religious Servants of Mary, an order of nuns that is fundamentally dedicated to the ministry of the sick. Already this time stands out for his great dedication and charity.
After a long season working with the sick, she feels compelled to found a new institute that bears her personal stamp. In 1871, with the help of the priest Don Mariano José de Ibargüengoitia and four other nuns, she founded the Institute of the Servants of Jesus of Charity.
He died on March 20, 1912 in the city of Bilbao after having suffered from a serious illness in the last years of his life. At the time of his death he had already created 40 houses in Spain and one in Chile.
John Paul II beatified her in 1992 and canonized her on October 1, 2000.
