Simulated candle with liquid wax reservoir

Paraffin candles are a type of candles that can be seen on altars, homes, and other worship areas.

Also known as liquid wax candles, simulated liquid wax candles, are a type of candles that are commonly used in our parishes.

A simulated candle with a liquid wax reservoir is an alternative to traditional candles.

Candles with liquid wax reservoirs seek to replace traditional wax candles by mimicking their color and flame.

Parts of the liquid wax candles

Liquid wax candles have a slightly more complex structure than solid wax candles (whether they are candles made from animal, vegetable, or mineral wax).

Paraffin candles are usually made up of three elements:

  • Simulated candle

The simulated candle is the outer casing of the candle. It is the most visible part of the paraffin candles.

It is a very resistant PVC tube and usually has a waxy color. Likewise, it is intended to be a color similar to solid wax candles.

  • Paraffin or liquid wax container

The paraffin container or liquid wax reservoir is the part of the candle that serves to store the liquid wax that will be consumed during the combustion that generates the flame.

The container is typically made of metal, PVC, or some material resistant to high temperatures. Sometimes this piece is transparent to facilitate the checking of the paraffin level.

The liquid wax reservoir is easily removable to facilitate refilling.

  • Wick of the paraffin candle

The wick is a piece of fabric or other material that is placed inside the reservoir and comes out at the top of the candle.

The wick absorbs the paraffin from the reservoir and causes flame when lit.

The wicks of paraffin candles have a limited life and must be replaced periodically.

Exposing more wick to the outside produces a larger flame, but also means an increase in paraffin consumption.

Advantages of liquid wax candles

Paraffin candles have a number of advantages over solid wax candles.

  • Longer-lasting candles

The PVC components like the simulated candle and the reservoir have a very long life. They are elements that barely suffer wear during the use of the candles.

Compared to solid wax candles, one could almost say they have an unlimited life.

  • Lower level of residues

Solid wax candles generate residues during the combustion process. As the flame burns, the candle melts. During this process, the wax spills over the surface where the candle rests.

Melted wax is a residue that is sometimes difficult to manage.

Candles with a liquid wax reservoir do not have this type of problem.
