Death in the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Lugo
In Religious Articles Brabander we always like to give good news through our blog, but on this occasion, in this entry, it is our turn, unfortunately, to give sad news, the death of the Discalced Carmelite nun María Sagrario de Jesús (Josefina Mosquera) that was called by Our Lord to his presence on February 3. The Eucharist for his death was celebrated on February 4 at 11 a.m. in the Monastery of the Carmelitas Descalzas de Muxa (Paredes) in Lugo.
The deceased cloistered nun was one of those who founded the monastery of the order of the Discalced Carmelites in the Diocese of Lugo when, in 1983, they moved from a monastery in the town of Buñol to the Monastery of the Holy Trinity in San Pedro de Muxa in Paredes (Lugo).
The Santísima Trinidad Monastery is located very close to the Miño River, about four kilometers from the Bishopric of Lugo and our religious articles store . It was built in 1943 and since 1983 it has been continuously occupied by the Discalced Carmelite nuns.
Sister María del Sagrario de Jesús led a life marked by the Rule of Carmel , like the other cloistered nuns with whom she has shared in recent years.
The Rule of Carmel organizes the day-to-day schedule of all the Carmelite sisters:
06:30 a.m.: the Carmelites get up (05:30 a.m. in summer).
07:00 hours: the nuns recite or sing Lauds. They make an hour of prayer and Terce is prayed. They listen to the Eucharist of the day.
09:00 hours: the Carmelite sisters have breakfast in community.
11:45 a.m.: the nuns recite Sexta, take an exam and then gather in the Convent dining room for lunch.
1:00 p.m.: the Carmelites have an hour of individual or community recreation.
2:00 p.m.: The nuns retire to their cells after having visited the Blessed Sacrament .
3:00 p.m.: after an hour of individual prayer in their cell, all the Carmelite sisters gather to pray the Nona as a community.
4:00 p.m.: Each of the nuns spends two hours doing their work. In recent years, the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Muxa have prepared forms and particles for the Diocese of Mondoñedo-Ferrol, the Diocese of Lugo and the Diocese of Coruña.
6:00 p.m.: the nuns visit the Convent chapel again to pray Vespers and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
7:30 p.m.: Dinner and an hour of recreation.
9:00 p.m.: I pray in the chapel of the Monastery of the Santísima Trinidad de las Compline.
10:30 p.m.: The nuns, after being collected in their cells, gather again in the chapel of the Convent for the community Holy Rosary and recite the Office of Reading of the Eucharistic the following day.
11:45 p.m.: time to sleep in the monastery.
This year was very special for all the Discalced Carmelite nuns, Pope Francis granted the Dioceses of Spain the celebration of the Teresian Jubilee Year as a commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the birth of Saint Teresa of Jesus . The Monastery of the Holy Trinity of the Discalced Carmelite Nuns, for having an image of Saint Teresa of Jesus, has been chosen together with Santa Iglesia Catedral Basílica de Lugo, Santuario Nuestra Señora del Corpiño, Capilla Nosa Señora do Carme de Melide and the Iglesia parish church of San Xoán de Becerreá , as a place of pilgrimage to reach the plenary indulgence decreed by the Pope.
