World Youth Day in Madrid

Next August, from the 16th to the 21st, as you all know, the World Youth Day will be held in Madrid. In Religious Articles Brabander we want to be the first to advance the agenda that today has made the agenda public (although it could still undergo variations) so that you do not miss anything.

TUESDAY 16

08:00 Arrival in Madrid

From first thing in the morning, pilgrims and groups registered for World Youth Day (WYD) will be able to collect their accreditations and backpacks at the places indicated by the organization.

20:00 Inauguration Mass

World Youth Day begins at 8:00 p.m. with a Mass in Plaza de la Cibeles in Madrid, presided over by the Archbishop of Madrid and concelebrated by the bishops and priests participating in WYD.

WEDNESDAY 17

10:00 Catechesis of the bishops

The participants in the WYD, organized by linguistic groups, will have catechetical sessions with bishops from all over the world. The sessions will take place in churches, schools, auditoriums and sports centers in Madrid.

12:00 Arrival of the Pope at Barajas airport

Welcome ceremony at the State Pavilion.

12:40 Entry of the Pope in Madrid

Tour of the entrance to the city in the Popemobile and arrival at the Nunciature.

19:30 Welcome ceremony for young people in Cibeles

In the Plaza de la Independencia he will cross the Puerta de Alcalá with young people from the five continents. After this act, he will board the Popemobile, which will take him to Plaza de Cibeles.

FRIDAY 19

10:00 Catechesis of the bishops

The participants in the WYD, organized by linguistic groups, will have catechetical sessions with bishops from all over the world. The sessions will take place in churches, schools, auditoriums and sports centers in Madrid.

11:30 Meeting of the Pope in the Monastery of El Escorial

With young nuns in the Patio de los Reyes of the Monastery of El Escorial. (A special accreditation is required).

12:00 Meeting of the Pope in the Monastery of El Escorial

Meeting with 1,000 young university professors, in the Basilica. (A special accreditation is required).

7:30 p.m. Stations of the Cross

The WYD Stations of the Cross will begin. In each station there will be a step of the Spanish Holy Week, which represents the scene. They come from different parts of the peninsula.

SATURDAY 20

10:00 Mass for seminarians in the Almudena Cathedral

16:00 Preparatory act in Cuatro Vientos

The young people will gradually arrive at the aerodrome and take their places. Meanwhile, different activities will take place on stage (testimonies from young people, musical performances, prayers to the Virgin, etc.), to prepare for the Vigil.

19:40 Visit of the Pope to the San José Institute Foundation

Assistance center for the sick of the Archdiocese of Madrid, attended by the Hospitaller Order of San Juan de Dios.

20:30 Vigil with the Pope (provisional time)

The Pope will arrive at the Cuatro Vientos aerodrome, and Eucharistic adoration will begin. A speech by the Holy Father is scheduled.

23:00 Night in Four Winds

WYD participants will spend the night at the Cuatro Vientos aerodrome. For those who want it, there will be several tents where you can worship the Blessed Sacrament.

SUNDAY 21

09:00 Arrival at Cuatro Vientos and tour in the Popemobile around the area.

9:30 a.m. Closing Mass of WYD

The Pope will concelebrate the Mass with thousands of bishops and priests, and will address the young and less young people present, to send them to the world to bear witness to their faith, as the Lord did with his Apostles. At the end of the concluding Mass, the Holy Father will announce the place where the next edition of World Youth Day will be celebrated.

17:30 Meeting of the Pope with volunteers

Benedict XVI will have a brief meeting with the WYD volunteers at the IFEMA fairgrounds.

18:30 Farewell of the Pope

There will be a brief official farewell to the Holy Father at Barajas airport.
